ABOUT ME
Rene’ Barnard
Experienced Counselling Professional
I began my professional journey by completing a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, which provided a strong foundation for my work in supporting individuals and families. Early in my career, I worked within non-governmental organisations serving vulnerable communities, where I assisted children and families in accessing essential social support services.

I later transitioned into school counselling, where I had the opportunity to provide emotional and psychosocial support to learners, parents, and staff members. This experience deepened my interest in the field of counselling and ultimately led me to pursue further studies in psychology. I am also trained in beginners and advanced Play Therapy modalities.
After completing my Honours degree in Psychology, I worked in the mental health sector as a Registered Counsellor with the Department of Health and Wellness, supporting individuals facing a range of emotional, behavioural, and psychological challenges.
My approach is grounded in empathy, respect, and collaboration. I am committed to creating a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I recognise and value the uniqueness of each individual and strive to provide compassionate, client-centred care that honours each person’s background, beliefs, and personal journey.

Right to Privacy and Confidentiality
Every person has the right to privacy. Information shared during counselling sessions is treated as confidential and handled with the utmost respect and professionalism. Counsellors are ethically obligated to protect clients’ personal information and will not disclose details discussed during sessions without consent.
Exceptions to Confidentiality
There are limited circumstances in which confidentiality may be legally overridden in accordance with South African law. In these situations, the counsellor has a legal and ethical duty to disclose relevant information. Confidentiality may be breached when:

• A child or adolescent under the age of 18 is suspected to be experiencing abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
• The counsellor is required by a court of law to provide information through a subpoena or other legal order.
These exceptions are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of individuals and to comply with legal obligations.
How often do I have to attend sessions?
Once a week, once every two weeks or once a month. Session frequency is based on the clients needs & can be adjusted at any time.
What are the costs and the duration of the sessions?

Group sessions are R300/person for a 50-minute session. These fees are subject to time & travelling distance.
How does the payment process work?
